My mom, Debra Bonde, is the founder and director of Seedlings Braille Books for Children and she is currently in the running for an award which would provide Seedlings with $10,000 to continue their mission of providing blind children with affordable books! This year, a "people's choice" award has been added, so that an additional $10,000 will be given to the charity of the finalist who receives the most online votes.
If you could please spare a few seconds and go to http://www.standonabetterworld.com/v
For additional information, behind the cut is a statement that Seedlings has sent out about the award
We need your vote and time is running out! Our Director, Debra Bonde, is a finalist for a National Award which, if won, would bring Seedlings $10,000 (with which we could make more braille books). It would also bring lots of publicity to the cause of braille literacy! The "Stand on a Better World" Award is being given by Mannington Mills to recognize and celebrate women who make a difference in the lives of others. Seedlings Braille Books for Children is a small nonprofit organization that Debra started in the basement of her Detroit home in 1984. Since then she has sent out over 240,000 braille books to children all across the US and Canada.
Please take a moment and vote for her now (the deadline is September 7th). Just go to www.standonabetterworld.com/vote/index.h
If you want to help even more, send a note about the vote to the people in your address book, to all your myspace or facebook friends, or post a notice on any listservs to which you belong. We need as many votes as possible, and we would truly appreciate your help in getting the word out!
Thanks so much! Let me know if you have any further questions or anything :)
